David Carstens is a distinguished intellectual property attorney, entrepreneur, and investor with a deep track record in IP strategy, venture investment, and technology commercialization. As the Founding Partner of 5IR Funds, he leverages his expertise in patent prosecution, technology transactions, and IP litigation to help portfolio companies protect and maximize the value of their innovations.

David is also the Founding Partner of Carstens, Allen & Gourley, LLP, where he has spent over 27 years advising startups, corporations, and investors on IP strategy, licensing, and commercialization. His background in IP valuation and technology law is instrumental in structuring 5IR Funds’ investment framework, particularly in deep-tech sectors where intellectual property is a critical asset.

Beyond his legal career, David has demonstrated strong entrepreneurial and financial acumen as the Founder of T Bank, N.A., and Doxile, Inc., an innovation platform company. His ability to bridge law, technology, and finance strengthens 5IR’s investment strategy, ensuring investments are scalable, IP-secured, and positioned for long-term growth.

David holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas, where he served as President of Eta Kappa Nu. He earned a J.D. from Southern Methodist University, an M.B.A. from the SMU Cox School of Business, and completed the General Management Program at the Wharton School. Additionally, his Certification in IP Valuation enhances his ability to assess and protect intellectual property assets in high-growth industries.

With expertise spanning intellectual property law, finance, and venture building, David plays a key role in shaping the Manager’s strategic vision, ensuring its investments are legally sound, innovation-driven, and strategically positioned for success.
